What are the benefits of Free School Meals?

You could save more than £450 a year per child
You save time making packed lunches
Your child gets a healthy tasty, cooked meal

How do you apply for Free School Meals?

You apply for Free School Meals directly through Coventry City Council. Follow this link to make your applications: https://www.coventry.gov.uk/benefits-1/free-school-meals/3

Once the application has been assessed the Local Authority will notify the household in writing or by email.

How does Free School Meals work?

The Free School Meal amount will be added to their account daily. A student can choose to spend this during EITHER break time or lunch time. They can not spend their allowance across both.

How much amount do they get?

Students receive £2.50 daily. If they do not use this then it is reset daily. If you wish to top up their balance beyond this you can do this using Parent Pay: Parent Pay

Do I need to tell you if I am granted Free School Meals?

The school receives updates from the council on Free School Meals, in which case we will ensure this is applied to your child. However, it can be quicker for you to let us know by sharing a picture of a copy of your letter with us.

What if I’d rather give my child a packed lunch?

Your child does not have to have a school meal if you do not want them to. But we would ask that your child is signed up for free school meals anyway, so we can receive the Pupil Premium fund to support us.

My child is moving from a different school, what do I need to do?

You must tell the council that you are moving schools. If you do not tell them this may prevent us from confirming your eligibility for Free School Meals. You can tell them about a change in circumstances here: https://www.coventry.gov.uk/benefits-1/free-school-meals/4

I am a ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ household. How do I apply for Free School Meals.

The application process for No Recourse to public funds households is different from the one outlined above. Please contact the school directly and we will advise you the steps. .
